Lifestyle coaching

There are many other aspects of daily living that can affect your child's health. Issues such as his/her sleep and pre-sleep habits, breathing patterns, exercise levels and stress-coping skills are all important to consider. Once again, we'd sit with you and try and understand just what daily habits your child has that may be impacting negatively on his/her health.

An example could be your child's sleeping environment. Since - in order for melatonin (sleep hormone) to rise appropriately in time for evening sleep - cortisol levels (one of the many 'stress' hormones) need to fall. Your child's skin is a sensory organ and so will be affected by any light it is exposed to (whether natural or not) at night - increasing cortisol levels. This means that ideally, your child's sleeping environment should be pitch-black (if your child is afraid of the dark, there are ways you can slowly get him/her used to a dark room). Pre-sleep environment and activities would also be considered in this particular scenario.

How you and your child benefit:

  • help him/her develop effective ways to deal with daily stress
  • have a greater understanding of how your child's hormones respond to his/her daily habits
  • improve the quality of his/her sleep
  • help him/her enjoy more energy for daily physical activity
